Windows Cleanup

From Wikistix

For normal Windows installations, disk space is not so much of an issue. However, if using Virtual PC (VPC), VMware, Xen, Parallels Desktop, QEMU, Plex86 or other virtualisation technology, virtual disk image size may be an issue.

Go to: "Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup" and, under "More Options", click the bottom button to remove all but the most recent restore point.

The following can be deleted, if you know that you will never want to un-install them:

  • C:\Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall\
  • C:\Windows\$NtUninstall*$\
  • C:\Windows\$MSI*Uninstall*$\
  • C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\*

Compress:

  • C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\

If you would rather safely delete ServicePackFiles, see KB 271484 on a way to do this via CD.
